1963, the height of the Cold War. In an unlikely alliance, a CIA agent, Napoleon Solo and KGB agent, Illya Kuryakin, band together to save the world from nuclear disaster. A top nuclear scientist, formerly employed by the US, has gone missing. It is suspected his brother has kidnapped him to work on a nuclear bomb. Solo and Kuryakin accompany the scientist's daughter, Gaby, to Rome, as this is where her uncle is based. The idea is to covertly investigate his company and, hopefully, find the scientist and the bomb. Things aren't all plain sailing though. This is heightened by the fact that Solo and Kuryakin aren't sure they can trust each other and, to some extent, still regard each other as enemies.
In the 60's, the CIA agent Napoleon Solo is assigned to bring the mechanic Gaby Teller from East Berlin to the other side of the wall. Gaby is the daughter of the scientist and American collaborator Udo Teller that defected from German at the end of WWII and now has vanished. They are chased by KGB agent Illya Kuryakin but they succeed to escape. Soon Napoleon Solo's chief Saunders discloses that Gaby's uncle Rudi works for the wealthy Alexander and his wife Victoria Vinciguerra and Udo might be secretly building a nuclear weapon for them. Napoleon Solo is forced to team-up with Illya and Gaby and they go to Rome to investigate.
This movie was all it could be given that it&#39;s certificate was 12, however that isn&#39;t to say it would have benefited from it being given 15, this film might perhaps of lost it&#39;self in the more provided freedom it may seem to have wanted, regardless this film was fast-paced from it&#39;s start to it&#39;s slightly abrupt end, most of the time.<br/><br/>Elegance was not hidden, Vikander was remarkable and Cavill alongside Hammer set balance within the film, each carrying seemingly one half of each side, side being good/evil. They both carried somewhat of a neutral motion.<br/><br/>A film such as this could perhaps be compared, in fashion to the likes of recently released on DVD, Kingsman: The Secret Service, had Kingsman been tamer, that is to say by a fair bit!<br/><br/>The plot was as you imagined a film (a spy film) set in such a time- period would have, not to complex, a simple goal was to be achieved.<br/><br/>But given the two main stars&#39; characters circumstances, it becomes a little more extensive if even it not need be perhaps.
&quot; For a special agent, you aren&#39;t having a special day. Are you?&quot; Solo (Cavill) is a CIA agent tasked with trying to escort a woman from east to west Germany. Illya (Hammer) is a KGB operative that is trying to stop him. What they don&#39;t realize is that they are working or the same organization, and when they discover that a group is working toward proliferating nuclear weapons they must work together to stop them. This first and foremost is a pretty fun movie to watch. There is a lot of action and some laughs. The dialog is witty and the pacing is perfect, much like all the other Guy Ritchie movies. That being said the movie really started to lose steam for me and toward the end I found myself wandering and finding it difficult to pay attention the entire time. Even with that problem I still thought this was a decent movie and is worth a watch. Just don&#39;t expect a James Bond type action movie. Overall, nothing amazing but worth watching at least once. I give this a B-.
It succeeds admirably on its own terms – more so, I think, than his two Sherlock Holmes films – and while it never really transcends pastiche, its ambitions don’t lie in that direction.
The film is based on the television series of the same name that ran on NBC from 1964 to &#39;68. The series was an espionage adventure about two secret agents, Napoleon Solo (<a href="/name/nm0001816/">Robert Vaughn</a>) and Illya Kuryakin (<a href="/name/nm0564724/">David McCallum</a>) who worked for an organization named the United Network Command for Law and Enforcement (U.N.C.L.E.) The series was different from most other spy series of the time in that the agents were not acting on behalf of any country or government, but a private organization that was dedicated to fighting crime and evildoers. This was evidenced by the fact that the two agents on the series were an American (Solo) and a Russian (Kuryakin) working together during the Cold War. Their primary antagonist was a criminal network known as THRUSH which was dedicated to taking over the world. No. No, but some extra information about some of the characters are shown during the credits. See here or here for more information.
